Veteran WWE Star Ecstatic About CM Punk’s Return

CM Punk

One of CM Punk’s best friends from his initial run in WWE is thrilled to have the Straight Edge Superstar back in the company.

It was ten years ago to the day when CM Punk last appeared in a televised WWE match. That was January 26th, 2014 at the Royal Rumble when Punk was attacked by Kane and eliminated from the Rumble match.

The next day at Raw, Punk quit WWE due to his frustrations with the company. Nearly a decade later, CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 in Chicago. Punk has yet to wrestle on TV since his return, but he did beat Dominik Mysterio in two non-televised matches in late December.

During CM Punk’s initial run in WWE from 2006 to 2014, he was a main event superstar who was a five-time WWE World Champion. When Punk worked in WWE, they produced a video about his life and career while also featuring Kofi Kingston, whom Punk was a Tag Team Champion with and Kofi was also Punk’s best friend in the company.

In an interview with Busted Open Radio, former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston spoke about what it was like to have his good friend CM Punk back in WWE.

“So time is always weird when you’re on the roster. It flows differently because everything feels like it was just yesterday, but at the same time feels like it happened decades ago. So it does feel like a long time. But I told him actually this week, every time he comes around the corner, I legit light up. ‘Hey!’ I don’t even say anything. ‘Hey!’ I’m happy to see him back there because nobody ever thought that he would be back, you know what I mean?”

Kofi Kingston Believes CM Punk Being Back Is Great For WWE Fans

Throughout his 15+ year WWE career, Kofi has been a babyface for a lot of it. The popular WWE star feels like CM Punk’s return to the company is a great thing for the fans as well.

“There was such animosity between him and the company, and all the stuff that he had gone through, you just never thought that you would see him here, let alone in a ring. So I am ecstatic, I’m happy because he went through whatever he went through, and he came back, and now this is the next step in the journey, you know what I mean?”

“You always want to see people happy with their lives and where they’re at with their lives, and you want to see them go through what they go through and overcome that, and I think it’s great. I think it’s awesome.”

“For the fans, they get to see CM Punk back. You never thought you’d see that, but yet here we are. But for me, it’s just a joy to see him. I said one of these days, I’m gonna get used to seeing you around here, and I’m not gonna pop every time I see you. It’s not gonna be any time soon, but eventually, we’re gonna get tired of seeing you around here. But yeah, it’s great to see him back.”

CM Punk and Kofi Kingston are two of the 30-men expected to be in the Men’s Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble PLE this Saturday, January 27th in Tampa.
