Veteran AEW Star Wants To “Go Out Like Sting”

AEW veteran Paul Wight has expressed his desire to end his career in similar fashion to the recently retired Sting.

‘The Icon’ competed in his final ever bout at AEW Revolution on 3rd March 2024, bringing the curtain down on an outstanding 39-year career by teaming with Darby Allin to successfully defend the AEW Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks at the famous Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.

The former WCW Champion had announced his intentions to retire at the event almost six months in advance, allowing fans the opportunity to catch him in action against some of the top stars in AEW before he finally said farewell.

The retirement run was met with positivity by fans, something that fellow wrestling legend Paul White is hoping to emulate when the time comes to hang up the boots.

Speaking recently on ‘Downunder The Ring‘, 52 year-old White shared his desire to go out in similar fashion to his former opponent:

“It’s about me getting in the gym, training, getting ready where I feel comfortable. ‘Cause it’s basically a one shot run. I can’t pull the trigger on this half ass and go out and fail.

I mean, believe me, there’s an unbelievable amount of pressure on myself to get this done and get this in a way where the fans are appreciative of seeing me compete again and not like, ‘Oh, that’s sad. Shoot him. Put him out of his misery like Old Yeller.’ Take me out back and put me down. I don’t want to get put down yet.

I kind of want to go out like Sting did, have a nice little run, have some great matches, work with some of this amazing young talent we have in AEW and then slide out.”

AEW Boss Khan Unlikely To Return To The Ring

One man who has no desire to step into the ring again is Tony Khan.

The AEW President was left writhing in pain after an attack by The Elite on the 24th April edition of Dynamite, however he has confirmed he is not keen to seek physical retribution in the future.
