Veteran AEW Star Has Retired From Wrestling
An AEW wrestler with decades of experience has retired as an in-ring performer.
When AEW launched in January 2019, some of the big names hired were Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Adam Page, Kenny Omega, and others.
Christopher Daniels also joined AEW when they launched and he was not only a wrestler, but also the Head of Talent Relations. During his in-ring career in AEW, he was part of the SoCal Uncensored group with Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky who are the first Tag Team Champions in history. Kazarian and Sky are the recognized first champions, but Daniels was part of the group too.
At 54 years old, Daniels understandably slowed down as a wrestler since he started in the business in 1993. During his decorated career, Daniels competed for many companies like AEW, NJPW, ROH, TNA, WWF, ECW, AAA, NWA, AJPW, NOAH, ZERO1, MLW, CMLL, and more. Most people would likely associate him with TNA since he spent most of the 2000s decade there.
Christopher Daniels Competed In AEW Retirement Match At Collision Tapings
There was a Thursday night taping of AEW Collision in Cincinnati with Christopher Daniels in action against “Hangman” Adam Page. We won’t spoil the results here, but the two men had a Texas Death Match that was called a “bloodbath” by some fans in attendance.
The storyline between Page and Daniels escalated because Page had gotten physical with Daniels, who had been an interim EVP as an on-screen character for several months toward the end of 2024.
It has been reported by Fightful Select that Daniels is “effectively retired from in-ring competition” and the match with Page is considered Daniels’ last match. Fightful added that Daniels wanted to retire for quite some time.
This week’s AEW Collision episode from Cincinnati will air on TNT and MAX at 8 p.m. ET. It’s unknown if the announcers will say that it is Daniels’ last match or if that’s something that will be addressed on air in the future.
