Fans of WWE got to take a short trip down memory lane at Backlash when Puerto Rican native Carlito made a surprise appearance during the match between Damian Priest and Bad Bunny.

Carlito got a huge ovation from the crowd and while he didn’t do much during his few minutes in the spotlight, he got enough positive feedback that some within WWE are considering using him more despite him being away from the company for over a decade.

According to a report, the Puerto Rican superstar appears to have already started taking steps to formalize a return to WWE. After reportedly meeting WWE officials in Florida, Carlito has stopped taking new independent bookings and is only closing out what he already has. This is a follow up on what was previously reported about Carlito telling promoters he has signed with WWE.

While nothing has been 100% confirmed, he has already made at least one trip to the WWE Performance Center, which is being taken as an indication that he’s simply checking off a to-do- list before confirming his signing with WWE.

Carlito was given a solid midcard push during the second half of the 2000s but he never reached the main event. He was released in mid-2010 for what was cited as a painkiller addition and his refusal to enter rehab. However, he did make one earlier surprise appearance during the 2021 Royal Rumble.
