Update On WWE’s Interest In CM Punk

CM Punk Triple H

The situation surrounding former AEW World Champion CM Punk continues to be a messy one but it appears that he at least has not been contacted about a return to WWE.

The problems with Punk in AEW began at All Out in September 2022 when he aired his frustrations with many in the company in a very public way at the post-show press conference. That was followed by a backstage fight involving Punk and The Elite.

Tensions rose to the surface once again when Punk took to social media recently during his prolonged absence from AEW and took aim at Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho. Punk claimed Moxley refused to lose to him and that he had not been cleared for their Dynamite bout in August 2022. He also referred to Jericho as a “liar” and a “stooge.”

A recent report suggested that as a result of that outburst, AEW has “lost confidence” that CM Punk ever will return to the company and there had been previous speculation that the star could be persuaded to rejoin WWE if he could get out of his contract with Tony Khan’s company.

However, that speculation could be for nothing as Raj Giri has reported that there has been no contact between Punk and WWE:

“I have it confirmed that WWE hasn’t made any overtures to CM Punk.”

AEW boss Tony Khan has previously hit out at WWE over his belief that they asked several of his talents to break their contracts.
