Update on Roderick Strong Likely Joining WWE
Roderick Strong is best known for his run in Ring of Honor Wrestling over the past 13 years. He earned the moniker “Mr. ROH” because of his loyalty to the company and his longevity. During his ROH run, he won their World Title, TV Title and Tag Team Titles while earning a reputation as one of the best wrestlers in the world that didn’t work for WWE. He ended up leaving Ring of Honor last month, which led to speculation that he was WWE bound.
This past Friday, Strong gave a farewell speech following a Pro Wrestling Guerilla World Title match after spending 11 years with PWG.
During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said “it’s pretty clear that Roderick Strong is going to the WWE” due to his departures from ROH and PWG.
In a recent blog post at JRsbbq.com, Jim Ross wrote this about Strong: “Loved having Roddy Strong in Oklahoma recently for OklaMania and his match with Dalton Castle was stellar. I expect Roddy to join WWE soon and he will be a great addition to their roster when he does.”
There’s no official word from WWE or Strong yet, but it makes a lot of sense. Strong is a skilled in-ring performer that would fit in well on WWE’s NXT brand or even the main roster if they wanted to use him there. He’s 33 years old, which isn’t old by any means because he has a lot of great years left. He’ll be a great addition to WWE’s roster.
If you’re wondering, Strong has been in a WWE ring before as he faced Kurt Angle in the Kurt Angle Invitational during an episode of Smackdown in 2005.
