Update On Ex-WWE Star’s AEW Status After Debut
A former WWE star recently made their debut for AEW, but what does this mean for their immediate future in the ring?
AEW has no shortage of former WWE stars on its roster, and earlier in 2025, Isla Dawn made her debut for the promotion in her hometown of Glasgow, Scotland, following her release from WWE.
A messier situation has since emerged regarding Andrade El Idolo. Andrade returned to AEW after he was fired by WWE, but it seems things are far from simple regarding his status. Since he showed up in AEW and attacked Kenny Omega, WWE is insisting that the Mexican star is subject to a one-year non-compete clause due to the fact that he was fired for cause.
Nixon Newell Moves On From WWE
Former WWE star Tegan Nox surprised many when she appeared on Collision – under her non-WWE name of Nixon Newell – alongside Miranda Alize. They confronted Anna Jay and Tay Melo, who are both part of the tournament to crown the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Now part of the #AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, @taymelo and @annajay___ give their take, but @RealNixonNewell and @MirandaAlize_ have opinions of their own!

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave an update on Newell’s status and noted he does not believe she’s officially signed with AEW:
I didn’t get the impression that they’re signed to a deal, as much as they’re being brought in for a tag team match. Kind of like ‘If you do good…’ whatever. I don’t know. I haven’t heard that they’re signed or anything. But we’ll see.
