Update On CM Punk & Ace Steel Situation With AEW
CM Punk was expected to be announced as part of the new AEW Collision show which will debut on June 17th but when that didn’t happen, concerning rumors began to mount.
It appeared that Punk was originally set to be part of Warner Bros Discovery’s announcement of Collision at the company’s upfronts in New York City but those plans apparently changed.
A report from PWInsider noted that there is said to be an issue between CM Punk and AEW over the possible return of former producer and Punk’s friend Ace Steel. Steel left the promotion following the All Out fight where he allegedly bit Kenny Omega on the arm and threw a chair at Nick Jackson’s head.
Fightful Select has now elaborated on that saying that Steel’s name was brought up by Chris Jericho during his meeting with Punk as a way to show that all sides in the divide were willing to do business to some degree. The report notes that there was a meeting between CM Punk and AEW sometime this week and while Steel would be able to work with the company and directly with Punk, it was made clear he would not be able to be at TV tapings, a condition Punk is not believed to have agreed with.
IMPACT Wrestling was said to have recently made a play to bring in Steel to the promotion but he passed up that chance, so there was a belief he was either heading to WWE or AEW in the near future.
There was said to also have been plans for an AEW camera crew to film footage at Punk’s house on Wednesday, but it is not known if that happened.
