Update On AEW’s Eddie Kingston Sparks Return Speculation
Eddie Kingston’s AEW return is closer than ever.
AEW’s resident Mad King, Eddie Kingston, has been out of action since a broken leg, and torn ACL, and a torn meniscus in May 2024.
Kingston suffered the injuries after being suplexed from the ring apron through a table at ringside by Gabe Kidd as he lost the Strong Openweight Title. As Kingston landed, he crashed into the steel guard rail.
With the announcement of Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing on May 25 and the recent involvement of Gabe Kidd on Dynamite, some have suggested this could be a perfect time for Kingston to make his return. And it seems those rumours might not be too far from the truth.
Eddie Kingston Was Expected To Return In May
Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reiterated that the most recent update on Kingston’s condition had him returning in May. Furthermore, given that Gabe Kidd could also be involved in the match in some capacity, it would make storyline sense for Kingston to make his triumphant return.
Meltzer added that, regardless, Kingston’s return should be “soon.”
Just as a note, the last word we had about an Eddie Kingston return from his broken leg was May…
We’ve heard nothing in that direction as it would be something they’d keep quiet if it was happening, but it does make sense and unless there was a delay, Kingston’s return should be soon.
Although he gave little away regarding his impending comeback, Eddie Kingston admitted he feared AEW had left him behind in a recent interview. The former ROH World Champion said he hadn’t watched much AEW while out of action, but he’d been so blown away by what he had seen, he’s worried he can’t compete at the same level.
During his absence, Kingston has been regularly pictured training with former AEW and WWE star Cezar Bononi as he attempts to get back to full fitness.
