Upcoming WWE Special Event Will Have Familiar Name

Triple H WWE SmackDown

An upcoming WWE television special will have a name that a lot of longtime fans will be familiar with.

There is change going on in WWE regarding the future of their television shows. SmackDown is the first to change as they return to USA Network for next week’s September 13th episode featuring a Cody Rhodes-Solo Sikoa Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship.

The NXT brand is leaving USA Network on October 1st when it debuts on The CW. One of the big matches at that show will see Roxanne Perez defend the NXT Women’s Title against newcomer Giulia in a highly anticipated match.

Monday Night Raw is WWE’s longest-running weekly show with a 31-year history that was mostly on USA Network. That’s going to change when Raw moves to the biggest worldwide streaming service Netflix on January 6th. In addition to Raw going to Netflix, international fans in countries like The United Kingdom, Canada and many other places will get to see all three weekly WWE shows on Netflix.

What Name Will Upcoming WWE NBC Special Have?

It was reported earlier in the week that there would be a WWE special on NBC before the end of the year. It’s likely due to Smackdown airing on USA Network and USA Network is a part of the NBC Universal family of channels.

Wrestlevotes on X/Twitter reports that the WWE special on NBC will use the classic “Saturday Night’s Main Event” name.

The history of Saturday Night’s Main Event goes back to 1985 when Hulk Hogan defended the WWE Championship against Bob Orton. It ran on NBC until 1992. There were also five more WWE specials on NBC using the Saturday Night’s Main Event name from 2006 until the final episode on August 2nd, 2008.

This will obviously be the first Saturday Night’s Main Event show run by WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque. As noted by Wrestlevotes above, the location is unknown for now, but tickets are expected to be on sale next week so it should be announced soon.
