Former WWE Writer Criticizes Uncle Howdy Appearance On Smackdown
The look of the mysterious character known as Uncle Howdy on WWE Smackdown has been criticized by a former WWE writer.
Ever since Bray Wyatt returned to WWE in October at Extreme Rules, there have also been appearances from a new character named Uncle Howdy. For the past two months, Uncle Howdy only appeared on the video screen often issuing warnings about who Bray Wyatt really is and also warning LA Knight, who Wyatt is feuding with.
On last week’s December 16th episode of Smackdown, Uncle Howdy made history in his own unique way by asking if you wanted to see something really scary. That led to Howdy appearing in person for the first time as he stood by the entrance area while Bray Wyatt was in the ring. Meanwhile, LA Knight was terrified by the whole thing because Knight thought that Wyatt and Howdy were the same person.
The identity of Uncle Howdy remains unknown. Some people believe it may be former WWE superstar Bo Dallas (Bray’s real-life brother), who has been rumored to return to the company, but hat has not been confirmed. It remains a storyline full of mystery.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. didn’t seem impressed by Uncle Howdy’s “debut” as he discussed on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast recently.
“The smoke is not dissipating. You can’t even see half of the beatdown. Then, it gets smokier and you hear some new music, and here comes Uncle Howdy. I want to be kind this whole podcast, however, the mask and the hat has to be so big to fit over the mask [of Uncle Howdy], which is a huge mask. It made Uncle Howdy look like Hornswoggle was coming out.”
As he continued, Prinze questioned the height of Uncle Howdy as he continued to criticize the debut of the character.
“I’m looking [at Uncle Howdy going] ‘What the hell? How tall is that dude?’ It’s got to be [Bo Dallas], right? I’m sure he’s like 5’9″ or 5’10” at least, and this guy looks [like he’s 4 feet tall] …The mask and the hat have to be so big that it makes the rest of his body look so small.”
The storyline between Wyatt and Knight will continue into 2023 as we see more of Uncle Howdy in the weeks ahead. Tonight’s December 23rd episode of Smackdown was taped last week and we have the spoilers for the show on TJRWrestling.
