Uncertainty Around The Rock Leaves WrestleMania Plans In Flux
There are more questions than answers around The Rock.
At Bad Blood, The Rock made a surprise return to WWE television briefly staring down Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Jimmy Uso from the top of the ramp. However, the Hollywood megastar hasn’t been seen since.
Since then, a whirlwind of speculation has surrounded the star. Following claims he might not be at WrestleMania, the man himself called the speculation “bullsh*t.
This was followed by a further report which confirmed The Rock remains in control of his WrestleMania destiny. The feeling is that if he wants to wrestle he will do so, and crucially he remains committed to WWE moving forward.
The Rock Not Scheduled For WrestleMania Mian Event
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave an update on The Rock’s status and added more context around WWE’s WrestleMania plans.
Regarding Dwayne Johnson, nothing has changed from three weeks ago. WWE in its WrestleMania poster didn’t include The Rock, who would have been the biggest star at Mania if he was confirmed for the show, focusing on Rhodes and Reigns as the two biggest stars.
Meltzer added that while many would expect Rock to appear on Raw’s Netflix debut on January 6th, nothing is official. The company is also “working on deals” with several mainstream names for the taping.
Turning back to WrestleMania, the question appears to be whether Rock will wrestle in the main event, rather than whether or not he’ll be on the show.
The question is whether he’ll be doing the main event. We’re told again that he’s not committed at this point. Obviously if he wants to and feels he can do so, he’ll be doing it. It’s totally up to him. But in checking with two people who would both almost have to know about the Mania main event, one said that there is nothing set and the other said Johnson is not scheduled.
Meltzer went on to note that while the original WrestleMania plan was for The Rock and Cody Rhodes to meet one-on-one this is by no means a certainty. The main event could end up being a Triple Threat Match also involving Roman Reigns, or if Rock is out of the picture, Reigns and Rhodes could meet for a third time. After all, the pair are currently tied on one win a piece.
There has also been talk of John Cena challenging for a World Championship, which Meltzer suggests could in theory see the star wrestle Rhodes.
