“Trying To Get His Receipt” – John Cena Intentionally Injured Ex-WWE Star
A former WWE superstar thinks that John Cena went a bit too far during a televised segment.
When John Cena’s storyline with The Nexus began in June 2010, the group of eight “rookie” Nexus wrestlers attacked Cena, CM Punk, and everybody around ringside in a very physical way.
There were more beatdowns in the weeks and months to come because WWE had to establish the Nexus faction as a serious threat to all of WWE, especially it’s biggest star, John Cena.
As the feud with The Nexus went on, Cena wrestled the group’s leader, Wade Barrett, several times, while others in the faction got involved as well.
David Otunga was part of The Nexus, and now he’s talking about the group’s history on his YouTube channel. In a video discussing Cena getting payback on The Nexus, David Otunga said Cena was too aggressive with his chair shots.
“Cena hit me with that chair, I’m telling you right now, that was one of the most painful things I felt inside a wrestling ring. I thought, wait a minute? That can’t be right, that must have been a mistake.
Then he did it again. Look, I was supposed to be in there for four or five shots. I took maybe one and a half and I was like, uh-uh, absolutely not. I rolled out of the ring. This is one of the only times I was I wasn’t taking something.”
John Cena Intentionally Hurt Michael Tarver, In David Otunga’s Opinion
Otunga would go on to talk about Cena’s chair attack and how Cena was trying to get his receipt. A “receipt” in pro wrestling is a term for somebody to get payback for something that happened in the past. In this case, it was Cena relishing the chance to beat up The Nexus, as they had beaten him up many times before.
“I realized it’s because Cena was doing this on purpose; he was trying to get his receipt. I had heard him mention something before about that and definitely after the fact, and he was letting it be known in the ring at the time! ‘This is for all those times you did this. This is for all the times you did that’, like he’s muttering under his breath.”
That led Otunga to talk about how Cena went on to injure fellow Nexus member Michael Tarver during the segment.
“Boy, when I got away, he was tearing Tarver up. He was tearing Tarver up. Tarver didn’t get out as quickly as I did, I think Tarver thought he was tough and tried to take it, but one of those shots showed how stiff it was, and actually fractured Tarver’s elbow. Like he legitimately was hurt.”
John Cena’s story with the original version of The Nexus would end towards the end of 2010, but the group would continue in different forms the following year.
