Truth Behind Tony Schiavone Missing Upcoming AEW PPV
Tony Schiavone has lent his voice to every AEW show at some point in the company’s five years but now he’s revealed why he’s missing an upcoming PPV.
Tony Schiavone was on the call at Worlds End when Adam Copeland made his shock return to AEW after several months out of action with a broken leg suffered at Double Or Nothing. Copeland joined FTR to target the Death Riders and AEW World Champion Jon Moxley after Moxley had retained his title in the main event.
Tony Schiavone Not Booked For AEW International Show
Speaking on his What Happened When podcast, Tony Schiavone revealed, however, that the next cross-promotional AEW pay-per-view Wrestle Dynasty will take place without his commentary:
Of course, we’re sending some people to Japan. I’m not going to go there, I’m not going to Japan. Although I wouldn’t mind because I went to Japan back in 1991 for the big show in the [Tokyo] Dome, and that was a great trip. I had a great time in Japan when I went there, I loved it.
It’s not my decision. I’m either booked, or I’m not, and I’m not booked to go there. It’s a little bit easier for AEW to afford a ticket for me to Dayton, Ohio, than it is to going to Tokyo, Japan. It’s a little bit different on the money scale.
Tony Schiavone will be making international trips in 2025 however as he also noted he’d be heading Down Under for Grand Slam in February. AEW has been forced into a major change for its first Australia show and Schiavone will also be back in London, England for Forbidden Door.
Wrestle Dynasty will take place on January 5 in the Tokyo Dome as a cross-promoted show from AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and Stardom. Kenny Omega will return to the ring for the first time in over a year in the building where he became an international superstar.
