Trish Stratus Explains What Led To WWE Comeback

Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus has explained how a past interaction at a WWE live event led to her wanting to come back to be part of a storyline with Becky Lynch.

It’s been an interesting April for WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. At WrestleMania 39, she teamed with Becky Lynch & Lita to defeat Damage CTRL’s Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY in an entertaining tag team match. Trish was very impressive in the match, which is incredible since she retired as a full-timer in 2006.

On the April 10th edition of Raw, Stratus subbed in for an injured Lita to team up with Becky Lynch to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan. The match ended with Morgan doing a sunset flip to Stratus to win the titles. After the match, Stratus turned heel by hitting Lynch with a forearm and a Chick Kick.

This past Monday on the April 17th episode of Raw, Trish Stratus admitted that she attacked her “best friend” Lita backstage. Trish added that she is not a nostalgia act, she is not your childhood fantasy and she is not anybody’s sidekick. While also berating Becky Lynch for not showing Trish enough respect, Trish said that she is the greatest of all time and she was there to make sure that none of you forget it.

During an interview on WWE’s After the Bell podcast with Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick, Trish Stratus spoke about why she felt like coming back to WWE while recalling an interaction with Lynch at a WWE live event.

“Did I know I was going to go back to wrestling? No, but let’s keep in-ring shape, let’s keep in condition, let’s keep on top of the product and watch it closely in case there is a moment and if the opportunity presents itself.”

I took a keen interest in Becky Lynch last summer when they did a live event in Toronto and we got into an exchange of words. People were interested, and I thought, ‘that’s interesting in how interested they are in this.’ I did a post right before WrestleMania saying, ‘It’s so cool,’ Lita and Becky are lying, ‘they march to their own beat.'”

As she continued, Trish Stratus spoke about what she admired about Lynch, but then went into character mode about how she should be Lynch’s hero.

“I saw a lot of me in Becky. I see the drive, the passion, and, unequivocally, will not accept anything less than excellence. That is what I did. I see it in her. I admired and I loved that, but then being with her. They say don’t meet your heroes, not that she was my hero, I should be her hero. I was like, ‘Cool, okay cool.’ It was just too much and she was very patronizing on that end.”

“That end note of, we didn’t win that match, for whatever reason, and she was like, ‘It’s okay, we’ll get them next time.’ It felt like the right moment to deliver a message.”

In another interview this week, Trish Stratus revealed that she competed at WrestleMania 39 with a partially torn hamstring as well.
