Trish Stratus has opened up about a WWE plan that would have seen her align with a WWE Hall of Famer, but it didn’t happen due to an injury.

When Trish Stratus was feuding with Mickie James for the Women’s Championship after WrestleMania 22 in 2006, she found a debuting star that became a new ally.

On the May 8th, 2006 edition of Raw, Beth Phoenix made her WWE debut on Raw by attacking James, who shouted that Phoenix was “ruining everything.” In the weeks that followed, Stratus introduced Phoenix to the WWE Universe as a new star that would be Trish’s ally going forward.

However, plans changed because on the May 29th, 2006 edition of Raw, Beth suffered a broken jaw during a match.

Even though Beth only missed about two months with the broken jaw injury, WWE decided to put her back in Ohio Valley Wrestling instead of the main roster. By the time Beth was back on the main roster in July 2007, Trish Stratus was retired as a full-timer in September 2006, so they never got to be an alliance that WWE planned them to be.

In an interview with SHAK Wrestling, Trish talked about how Phoenix was going to be an enforcer that would be aligned with her.

“Yeah, she was going to be the enforcer of the group. It’s funny because they wanted her to be like a strong, silent type, which is cool and powerful. When we looked at how she ended up coming back, it was much better.”

As she continued, Trish Stratus spoke about how things ended up working out just fine for Beth even without aligning with Trish.

“I think she didn’t need to be in our thing and it just worked. It would’ve been a fun trio for sure, and especially when the storyline turned, it would’ve been interesting to see how it played out between us. But, yeah, I think everything played out the way it should’ve when I look back at everything.”

Even though she didn’t debut with Trish Stratus, Beth Phoenix did just fine for herself with four Women’s Titles in WWE and a Hall of Fame induction in 2017. Trish Stratus was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
