Trish Stratus Receives Emotional Ovation After WWE Payback Match (VIDEO)
After putting on an incredible performance at WWE Payback, Trish Stratus was emotional after the match while the fans showed her the respect she deserves.
In the opening match at WWE Payback from Pittsburgh, there was a very personal battle between Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus in a Steel Cage Match.
The two women were allies earlier this year when they teamed up to win at WrestleMania 39, but then Trish turned on Becky soon after in a match when they lost the Tag Team Titles while Stratus replaced Lita as Lynch’s partner.
Over the last four months, Trish picked up a cheap win at Night of Champions in May thanks to Zoey Stark’s help. Lynch had been clamoring for a rematch for months and finally got it at Payback.
At Payback, Lynch and Stratus had what many people would say was the match of the night. Lynch and Stratus fought in the ring, threw eachother into the cage several times and hit big moves throughout the match. Stratus even appeared to have a severe bruise on her forehead during the match, yet she fought threw it. Each woman kicked out of big moves as the battle continued.
Zoey Stark, who is Trish’s ally, tried to help Trish win the match. However, Lynch was able to take care of her with a Manhandle Slam. Lynch also gave Trish a Manhandle Slam off the turnbuckle for the pinfall win. After the match was over, Michael Cole proclaimed it was a contender for WWE Match of the Year as well.
Things didn’t go well for Trish after the match either because she was upset with Stark for not helping her win. Trish was rude to Stark, who replied with a Z360 knee to put Trish down. The camera cut out and moved on to other things at that point.
Trish Stratus Received Support From the Payback Crowd
It wasn’t shown on the television broadcast, but the Pittsburgh crowd gave Trish a standing ovation. Trish was emotional in the ring looking like she was in near tears. Trish proudly left the ring and saluted the crowd with one hand in the air. The fans were chanting “Thank You Trish” for the WWE Hall of Famer. When she got to the entrance area, Trish bowed to the crowd as if to say “you’re welcome.”
As for what’s next for the 47-year-old WWE Hall of Famer, that’s not known right now. Perhaps she will keep wrestling again, but after a performance like what she did at Payback, she should be proud of having one of the best matches of her legendary career.
