Trish Stratus Missed On Major WWE WrestleMania Match

Trish Stratus cuts a promo.

Trish Stratus has explained why she didn’t have a WrestleMania match with her biggest WWE rival.

The duo of Trish Stratus and Lita are known as “Team Bestie” because they are legitimate best friends who share a special bond as WWE superstars.

What’s interesting about Trish and Lita’s WWE careers is that they both started in early 2000 just weeks apart. Six years later, Trish retired as a full-timer in September 2006 while Lita retired as a full-timer in November 2006.

Since retiring as WWE full-timers, both women have come back multiple times. They have also teamed up in many big matches, including at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles with Becky Lynch as they picked up a win over Damage CTRL in a six-woman tag.

Trish Stratus had some other memorable matches at WrestleMania with Mickie James and a triple threat with Victoria & Jazz, but she never faced Lita.

In an interview with DS Shin on Ring the Belle, Trish Stratus confirmed that she was going to face Lita at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, but Lita suffered a torn ACL in her knee in January 2005 at the New Year’s Revolution PPV, so Lita was unable to wrestle Trish.

“The WrestleMania match is what we were working towards. WrestleMania season began in January, we were working towards a WrestleMania match.”

At WrestleMania 21, Trish beat Christy Hemme to retain the WWE Women’s Title while Lita was involved as a coach for Hemme since Lita was unable to wrestle at the time.

Was A Trish Stratus-Lita Match At WrestleMania Going To Be A Ladder Match?

The thought of a women’s Ladder Match in WWE in 2005 seems farfetched, but there was a rumor at the time that Trish & Lita’s match at WrestleMania 21 could have been a Ladder Match.

According to Lita, she doubts that it would have happened while also noting her history in some pretty big ladder matches.

“When I’m not believing that we’re going to be in the main event that day, I for sure am not believing that there was any validity to the rumor, but that would have made sense with me being involved in the TLC matches.”

Trish Stratus has also stated recently that she hopes to wrestle in WWE again, especially since 2025 will be 25 years after her WWE career began.
