Trish Stratus Explains How She’d Improve WWE Women’s Division
Trish Stratus thinks WWE can do more.
Women’s wrestling in WWE has changed dramatically in the last 25 years and one of the performers leading the charge was Trish Stratus. After beginning her career as a valet, Stratus trained as a wrestler and headed up an ever-growing crop of wrestlers including Victoria, Lita, Molly Holly, Jazz, and more.
Under the guidance of Fit Finlay who trained several female stars in this period, Stratus won plenty of championship gold and eventually landed in the Hall of Fame. Since ending her full-time career, Stratus has been credited with paving the way for the stars of today.
In 2024, women’s wrestling in WWE has never been bigger and the likes of Rhea Ripley and Beck Lynch (pre-hiatus) are some of the biggest stars in the industry.
Despite the strides the company has taken, Stratus thinks more can still be done. While appearing at Comic-Con in Northern Ireland, Stratus said that while women are getting more matches than ever on television, there also needs to be an investment in building their characters.
“I think I would like to have a little bit more focus on characters. I feel like for sure now, there’s way more opportunities for women, obviously.
We see them main eventing all the time, we see them in high-profile matches, but I think what we had back in the day was a lot of more character stuff, and you got to know these characters, the fans could really resonate with the character a little bit more.
Now, they’re just having these great matches, but there’s no backstory as much as there was back in the day, so I think character development would be one thing I’d like to focus on.”
Trish Stratus Open To In-Ring Return
During the same appearance, Trish Stratus said she’d love to face Tiffany Stratton after being asked who she’d like to wrestle.
The star has repeatedly hinted she could wrestle again, and speculation went into overdrive after an interaction with Stratton at Money In The Bank. That appearance came shortly after Trish Stratus laughed off suggestions she’s retired, joking she doesn’t know the meaning of the word.
The Hall of Famer hasn’t wrestled since losing to Becky Lynch at Payback 2023.
