Trish Stratus Reveals Heartbreaking Reason Why Huge WWE Match Almost Didn’t Happen

Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus admitted that one of the biggest matches of her WWE career almost didn’t happen because of a personal reason.

One of the big matches at the women-only WWE PLE Evolution saw Tiffany Stratton defend the WWE Women’s Champion against a WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus.

It was a matchup of generations, as Stratton is 26 years old and has only been wrestling on WWE TV for about three years, while Stratus is celebrating 25 years since her debut in WWE in 2000. In recent years, Stratus has demonstrated that she is as good as ever in her matches.

Trish Stratus announced that her mother passed away in late August due to cancer, and it has been tough for her to deal with, as expected when anybody loses a parent whom they love.

While Stratus had to portray a strong character on WWE television, she was hurting inside knowing that her mother wasn’t doing well, yet here she was ready to compete with Tiffany Stratton at Evolution because that’s her life as a WWE legend.

Trish Stratus’ Mom Encouraged Her To Compete At WWE Evolution

In a post on Instagram, Trish Stratus shared a video about the match with Tiffany Stratton at Evolution and wrote about how her mother wanted her to have the match. Stratus shared that message with her fans on Instagram while making it clear that it’s about finding strength in the things that make you feel alive.

This match almost didn’t happen.

When my mom got sick, I didn’t think it was the right time to step away – but she said, “Do it. Do what you can, while you can.”

Those words hit differently now. It wasn’t just about wrestling – it was about life. About showing up, even when it’s hard. About finding strength in the things that make you feel alive. I’m so grateful I did… and that I got to share that ring with my lil sis @tiffanywwe – who deserves all her flowers. It was special in more ways than one.

Exactly one month later, my mom passed… but she got to see me do what I love, one last time. 🩶🪽

Shout out to Atlanta, I’ll never forget the love you showed not only me, but also every woman on that card. #wweevolution #atlanta @wwe @tkogrp

In the replies, Trish’s Evolution opponent Tiffany Stratton paid a compliment to the WWE Hall of Famer: “You’re so strong & such a good role model. Thank you Trishy.”

Earlier this year at WWE Elimination Chamber in Toronto, the TS team of Stratus and Stratton beat Nia Jax and Candice LeRae in a tag team match.
