What Triple H Told Ex-TNA Champion About Using Specific Move In WWE
A former TNA wrestler has recalled what Triple H said about using a specific move in a WWE ring.
James Storm is a former TNA World Champion who will always be remembered as a legendary tag team wrestler, first with Chris Harris in America’s Most Wanted and then with Bobby Roode in Beer Money.
In late 2015, Storm went 2-0 on the WWE NXT brand, and he was offered a contract by WWE’s Triple H, who was running the brand at the time. However, Storm told WWE and Triple H “no” for monetary reasons. Storm revealed that the money they were offering was less than what Storm was offered to return to TNA, so Storm went back to TNA instead.
“Man, it was a lot. Mostly had to do with my family. Had a little bit to do with money, which is not like they didn’t pay him a lot of money, so he’s not coming. It wasn’t like that at all. They gave me a contract, I went home and I got a call from Regal. He goes, ‘Hey, we definitely want to sign you.’ I was like, Oh, great.
So I was going to sign the contract and all that stuff, and then he asked me, ‘Can you tighten up a little bit? Lose a little weight?’ I was like, Yeah. I busted my ass and I lost 20 pounds. I got in really good shape when I got back down there. Everybody’s like, Oh, my God, you look totally different. Because I always tell people, if you give a man motivation, he’ll work his ass off. So I did it, and then when I got down there, the contract had changed.
They added 25 more dates, but the money didn’t move. I even told him TNA had offered me another contract to come back because they heard about me wanting to sign with WWE. I said, ‘Look, this is what TNA is offering me. I’m not trying to hold this over your head at all, because you don’t have to match this at all. I’m just saying this is what I’m willing to give up to come and work for this, but it has to be right.’
Because my wife, she wanted to have another child at the time, but she had to take the shots and all this stuff, so I was basically kind of giving that up as well, because I was going to be on the road a lot.”
Storm went on to say that WWE didn’t match the financial offer that TNA was making, so Storm turned them down.
Triple H Talked To James Storm About Using A Superkick In WWE
During an interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, Storm also spoke about how the superkick was his finishing move in TNA, but that’s a move that a lot of wrestlers do in WWE, and only WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels used it as a finisher when he did “Sweet Chin Music.” However, when Storm explained it to Triple H, he was allowed to use it in NT
“When I went to NXT the first time, they had me use a different finisher. Then my second match there, Hunter was like, ‘Hey, what do you want to use?’ I said, Well, my superkick. He goes, ‘Well, everybody uses a Superkick.’ I looked at him, and I said, ‘Hey man, that’s fine. They knock people down with their Superkick. I knock people out.’ He goes, ‘All right, you can use it.’
I got to use it in my second match, and then I was going to use it there going forward and everything.
It’s fine if people want to use it as a spot, but because that makes mine look all that more devastating, because I actually beat people with mine, especially if you do it right and make it look good.”
Later in the interview, Storm joked that at least he could say he was undefeated in WWE.
