Triple H Stopped Swerve Strickland From Using Scripts
Swerve Strickland has revealed that Triple H stopped him from doing scripted promos while in NXT.
Over the past few years, WWE has often been criticised for having Superstars use scripts for their promos. While there have been some exceptions to this, many WWE stars have less input for their promos than performers in past eras.
However, former NXT star Swerve Strickland has revealed that, while he part of the company, Triple H allowed him to cut promos script-free.
During an interview on Talk Is Jericho with Chris Jericho, Strickland -known as Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in NXT – recalled Triple H told staff to take away his scripts as he wasn’t to use them anymore.
“We did Great American Bash and we [Strickland and Leon Ruff] had a blow-off match. That’s when Hit Row was introduced. I was cutting promos in the studio backstage and Triple H was like ‘Nope – take away the script. Don’t let him use the script anymore.’ So I was like ‘cool’”
Hit Row received a lot of praise for their performances as a group and Swerve Strickland went on to become the NXT North American Champion. However, soon after being called up to the main roster, the faction was unexpectedly released.
After leaving WWE, Strickland joined AEW, making his debut at Revolution in March. He was most recently in action on the April 27th episode of Rampage in a losing effort against Darby Allin. On the following episode of Dynamite, Strickland cut a promo alongside Keith Lee, with the pair promising they would get their hands on Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs.
