Triple H Reflects On How “Stone Cold” Steve Austin Helped His Career In WCW
Triple H has honoured WWE icon “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, sharing how the Texas Rattlesnake offered guidance during his formative years in professional wrestling.
Appearing on the Flagrant podcast, Triple H recounted his first encounters with Austin back in 1994 while the two were working in WCW. At the time, Austin was known as “Stunning” Steve Austin and was making his way through the midcard.
“Steve was one of the few guys when I started in WCW… he was kind of in the middle of the card at that point,” said Triple H. “But he was one of the guys who, when I was just the new kid coming in the door, which was especially tough in the business back then, would actually talk to me.”
Triple H, then a young talent still finding his footing, credited Austin with helping him develop during a difficult era in the industry, when breaking in often meant being ignored or dismissed by veterans.
“I was young and just trying to get started, and Steve was one of the few who’d come over and say, ‘Hey dude, I noticed you were doing this, maybe try that instead,’ or whatever. He was super cool like that,” he added.
Despite their early struggles in WCW, both men eventually found tremendous success after moving to WWE. Over the years, they each became multi-time world champions, WrestleMania headliners, and key figures in shaping the Attitude Era.
Now, both are enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame. While Austin remains a beloved legend, Triple H has taken a leading role behind the scenes, serving as WWE’s Chief Content Officer and guiding the creative direction of the company he helped define.
What Did Triple H Say About Mentioning Vince McMahon In His WWE Hall Of Fame Acceptance Speech?
Triple H addressed the backlash he received for thanking Vince McMahon during his 2025 WWE Hall of Fame acceptance speech, stating that “none of us would be here without him” and that, due to that fact, it would be “pretty hard not to mention him.”
