Triple H Reveals Origins Of Iconic WWE Water Entrance

Triple H WWE Water

Triple H has shared the origin story about why he used to spit water in the air before his WWE matches.

It is likely the busiest week of the year for WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who has two nights of WrestleMania 41 to produce in addition to other weekly shows. On top of that, Triple H is headlining the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on April 18th in Las Vegas as well.

Due to the Hall of Fame ceremony that will honor his career as a 14-time WWE World Champion who had an amazing in-ring career for over 25 years, Triple H has spent a lot of time in interviews looking back on his career as a wrestler.

Whenever his music hit, Triple H went down to the ring looking as focused as ever, as he attempted to win the match he was about to have. What became an iconic part of his entrance was when he would stand on the apron, extend his arms, and spit water into the air while fans in the front rows got a shower from it.

During an appearance on the High Performance podcast, Triple H revealed that the way the fans reacted to the water spit was a big reason why it became a signature part of his entrance.

“People always ask me, How did that start? When I was a bad guy, I had just won the title and everybody was on me about it. I would come out and wet my hair right before I got in the ring, I put water in my mouth, I stood up, and when I threw the title up I spit the water out at everybody in the crowd.

But I noticed the first time I did it, they went crazy and I was like, ‘well that’s something.’ So the next night I did it again, and then it just morphed into me doing it up in the air, and we would put light on it, and it would look really cool.”

Triple H Knew He Had To Stick With His Water Entrance

The Triple H water spit entrance is something that many fans and even pro athletes have imitated, whether in public or perhaps in privacy while taking a shower.

“It became this iconic thing where 25 years later people are still [saying], ‘Do the water spit.’ But it was just based. I could have very easily done that one night, never thought about it, never done it again, and just moved on and it would have never happened. But you just little things that click, that you stick with.

So in many ways, we tell the stories and we lead the crowd. But in many ways, the crowd leads us.”

While the fans helped him carve out a memorable entrance, Triple H also had some harsh words for internet wrestling fans who like to complain about things. In his opinion, the reactions from the fans in the arenas are far more important.
