Triple H Claims “Nobody Knew” About WWE Elimination Chamber Ending
Triple H confirmed that it was a “very tight circle of people” who knew about the shock ending at WWE Elimination Chamber.
The ending of WWE Elimination Chamber in Toronto is being praised by wrestling fans around the world as one of the best endings to a wrestling show ever.
After John Cena won the Men’s Elimination Chamber match, he earned an Undisputed WWE Title shot against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. The Rock showed up and asked Cody Rhodes to give Rock his soul, but instead, Cody told Rock matter-of-factly: “Go f**k yourself.”
Cena celebrated with Cody by hugging him, but after Rock made a throat-slash gesture to the Elimination Chamber winner, Cena kicked Cody in the groin. Cena went on to beat up Cody with Rock’s help (along with rapper Travis Scott) while the Toronto crowd booed the newly heel Cena along with Rock and Scott.
According to The Rock after the show, it was all part of a long-term plan that will continue to play out in the weeks ahead.
Triple H Loved That Elimination Chamber Ending Was A Surprise
It was reported by Fightful Select that The Rock’s promo segment with Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and Travis Scott was originally listed third on the internal rundown of the show. That was done to protect Cena’s heel turn, which was kept secret from most people in WWE.
At the WWE Elimination Chamber post-show, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque talked about how the creative process is a collaborative effort rather than just his vision as the boss. He also talked proudly about how it was only a small group of people who knew what was about to happen at the end of the Chamber show.
“The one thing about tonight that I loved that it was nowhere. Nobody knew. When I say nobody knew, nobody. Right before the finish of the Elimination Chamber, I had to say to the truck, ‘Everybody lay out, I have all traffic on where we go next.’ Nobody knew what was coming.”
It was a very tight circle of people because we’re just trying to entertain people and doing it in a way that is amazing and next level and they don’t see coming. Where does it start? It starts with a group of people that just love this. It’s in Rock’s blood. The goosebumps aren’t manufactured. That’s him.
There is a massive group of people here, internally at WWE, talent and everything, that is how they are. They live, breathe, sleep this, and want it to be epic. We start there and it escalates. It’s a team effort that I’m incredibly proud of.”
Before Elimination Chamber, Triple H claimed that it would be an “industry-changing” weekend, and by the time it was over, that prediction proved to be true.
