Triple H Says WWE Broke Two Records With Money In The Bank & Smackdown In England
It was a record-setting weekend for WWE with their two massive shows (Smackdown & Money in the Bank) at the O2 Arena in London, England.
The O2 Arena in London, England played host to WWE on back-to-back nights. Friday’s Smackdown on June 30th was the go-home show for Money in the Bank with The Bloodline family drama featuring Roman Reigns/Solo Sikoa and The Usos having a brawl in the main event.
That was followed up by Saturday’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event which was headlined by The Usos beating Reigns & Sikoa in the main event along with two scintillating ladder matches along with several other title matches. There was one title change with Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan winning the Women’s Tag Team Titles from Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler.
On Smackdown, the announced attendance was 18,617 fans in attendance while Money in the Bank had a crowd of 18,885 people with both nights completely sold out. It is well known that WWE tends to over-inflate attendance numbers too.
During the Money in the Bank media press conference, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque spoke about how the company broke some records during the two shows in England.
“Tonight was the highest-grossing arena event in the history of WWE. Let that sink in for a moment, in the history of WWE, it’s a pretty long history.”
“Last night was the highest-grossing SmackDown in WWE history. Two pretty bold statements that everybody here should be very proud of and I know we’re pretty proud of.
In other words, it was an expensive ticket, and with a packed arena, WWE did incredible numbers.
“More than 37,000 fans over the last two nights, just here in the O2 alone.
“Sponsorship, merchandise, social media, all records for Money In The Bank.”
Triple H said there would be more details in the coming days, but it may be delayed since the July 4th US Independence Day holiday is on Tuesday.
