John Cena will retire later this year in December.

Earlier this year, it was announced that The Never Seen 17 will wrestle for the last time in his career at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. However, the biggest question that lingered on the minds of many was who would be the lucky superstar to retire one of the best the pro wrestling business has ever witnessed.

On Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1, WWE gave us the answer to this major question. At the event, WWE aired a vignette revealing who Cena’s final opponent in WWE will be. In the video, The Last Real Champion announced that a 16-man tournament will be held to determine his retirement opponent for December.

The tournament will kick off from his hometown in Boston on November 10. Cena also mentioned that superstars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and even those who don’t work in the company will be a part of it. Rivals from his past and the ones he’s never stepped in the ring with will be included.

From the moment I announced my farewell tour over a year ago, the one question I’ve been asked more than any other is: who do you want to face in your last match? My answer has always been the same. On my last day, I want to face whoever is willing to step up and seize the same kind of opportunity I was given on my first day.

Therefore, starting a week from Monday on RAW in my hometown in Boston a 16-man tournament will commence. The field will be chosen at random, built with competitors from RAW, SmackDown, NXT, and maybe even some faces who don’t even work here. There will be stars with whom I have a storied history. But even more generation of talent that I never gone one-on-one with in my life.
