“Triple H Hates Your Guts”: Stone Cold Advised Ex-Champion To Leave WWE
WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin tried to save this former WWE champion from trouble.
Few wrestlers in history have had the impact that the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin had on WWE, wrestling, and popular culture as a whole. The Texas Rattlesnake was one of the most beloved characters and workers in WWE.
Known for his redneck no-nonsense in-ring persona, unforgettable promo work and segments and charisma that has been matched by very few who’ve preceded or followed him, Stone Cold was a force to be reckoned with. He was also highly respected in the locker room and was known to advise young upstarts, helping them in any way he could.
One such wrestler that Austin advised was an up-and-coming superstar, Mr.Kennedy (Real name: Ken Anderson). Fans of WWE in the 2000s will immediately recall the Mr. Kennedy character, who had entertaining promo segments on the SmackDown brand, wherein a mic would descend straight into his hands by a wire, and he would verbally rip apart whoever he was facing next. The star was slated for a major push, but it was eventually stalled due to injuries and backstage problems, effectively ending his WWE career.
Stone Cold Warned Mr.Kennedy
Stone Cold warned the former WWE United States Champion that he was getting cross with the wrong guys backstage, and speaking to Rene Dupree on his podcast, Ken Anderson opened up about the time that he received advice from the rattlesnake and how he feels about it in hindsight. Sone Cold praised Anderson’s match with Batista and wanted to discuss some ideas with him.
I checked my phone and it was like, Hey kid, Steve Austin here.
I got your number from somebody in the office. I saw your match with Batista. I liked the shit out of it.
You know, he just went on to say, I want to talk about some things. I’ve got some ideas for you. I’ve got some pointers, some little things that I saw.
The two became friends and a couple of years later, he would get another call from Stone Cold, this time advising him to leave WWE because of the situation he had gotten himself in backstage.
And so we became friendly and we would talk on a regular basis. And, um, yeah, I can fast forward a couple of years later. He called me one day and he was like, kid, get the fuck out of there.
He’s like, you got too much heat with the wrong people. He goes, Triple H hates your guts. Shawn Michaels hates your guts.
John Cena hates your guts. That’s a bad combination, kid. He was like, get the fuck out of there.
Anderson continued with his dead-on Stone Cold impression saying that the latter was right and that he should’ve listened to him but the paycheques were seemingly too good to let go completely.
He was like, go to Japan, go to TNA, get yourself over, do some stuff there. Get away from it for a while. You can always come back.
And I just couldn’t fucking bring myself to pull that trigger. And you know, the, the pay cheques were pretty good. Yeah.
And I, I just couldn’t bring myself to, to pull myself away. Hindsight. I wish I would’ve listened to him.
And so we became friendly and we would talk on a regular basis. And, um, yeah, I can fast forward a couple of years later. He called me one day and he was like, kid, get the fuck out of there.
