Ex-WWE Star Unsure Why Triple H Hated Him

Triple H WWE

A former WWE superstar who lost a title to Triple H claims WWE’s boss “never really liked me.”

A group of wrestlers in the early-to-mid 1990s started out with WCW and went on to become massive stars in WWE later in the decade and in the years that followed. While many people could be mentioned, three of the biggest names were “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Triple H.

Marc Mero was also a WCW guy who started out as Johnny B Badd and later went to WWE using his real name while also being nicknamed “Wildman,” among other things. Mero had a solid run in WWE, but he didn’t become a main event player like Vince McMahon probably wanted him to become.

While Triple H runs WWE as the company’s Chief Content Officer, Mero spreads positivity everywhere he goes and is praised for his public speaking.

During an interview with Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds, Mero claimed that Triple H never liked him while also expressing his desire to reconcile with The Game.

“For some reason, he never really liked me. I never knew why. We always had good matches, too, but I think there was some animosity when I left or when I first signed with WWE I was the first to get a guaranteed contract. It didn’t sit well with a lot of the guys.

I’m so proud of what he’s done with wrestling. Not just himself, and becoming a multi-time world champion. The first belt he won was off me, becoming the Intercontinental Champion. Just to put away the animosity, let me punch you in the face, and let’s become friends.”

Time heals all wounds, so hopefully, Triple H and Mero can become friends like Mero wants.

Triple H Hated Wrestling Ahmed Johnson

Ahmed Johnson is another wrestler from the mid-1990s era of WWE who held the Intercontinental Championship. Prior to his 2025 WWE Hall of Fame induction, Triple H spoke about how he didn’t like wrestling Johnson.

“I was wrestling a guy that was just terrible. They wanted me to have this long match with him. They gave me the worst referee. A referee can help you work around people’s inability because I can talk to the referee.

If I need a guy to do something, and he’s not doing something right, I can’t always just walk over there and tell him. I’m like, ‘F**king tell him to stop doing that’ and the referee can tell him. I have enough experience to where guys will listen. Sometimes, you need the help, especially on live TV or even taped TV.”

At that point, Triple H specifically mentioned former Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson.

“Ahmed Johnson. He was terrible. He was hurting people, and he was just big. You couldn’t understand him, and he had an attitude problem. It was one of those things and when I came back, I was pissed.

I went to Vince, and I cut a promo on him. I thought he was going to go off, ‘I told you if you don’t like it, f**k you, get out of here.’ He was like, ‘That’s fair. That’s fair.’ ‘Okay, f**king don’t do it again.’ Walked out.”

Everything eventually worked out for Triple H, who had a long career in WWE while Johnson’s run only lasted a few years.
