Why Triple H Didn’t Care About Never Wrestling Again
Triple H has revealed his unusual reaction to being told he’d never wrestle again after undergoing heart surgery.
WWE first issued a statement on Triple H’s condition on September 8, 2021, revealing that the Executive Vice President had undergone a procedure and was expected to make a full recovery:
Paul Levesque, a.k.a. Triple H, underwent a successful procedure last week at Yale New Haven Hospital following a cardiac event. The episode was caused by a genetic heart issue and Paul is expected to make a full recovery.
Thankfully, Triple H has recovered and now runs WWE as the Chief Content Officer of the sports entertainment giant. But one thing The Game will not be doing is getting back in the ring.
Triple H Says In-Ring Retirement Didn’t Phase Him
Speaking on Stephanie’s Places with his wife, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H revealed his stunning reaction to being told that he’d never be able to compete again:
There’s a moment in that where you lose who you are. You’re larger than life, you’re strong, you’re healthy. You could f*cking run through a wall anytime you want to and all that sh*t. You’re all of those things, that’s your identity, and all of that goes away. You’re seen as frail. It just all changes.
I remember when they had the conversation with me when they said we’re gonna put a defibrillator in and the reasons why so that means you would never wrestle again, like you can’t, you have to not do physicality. That didn’t even faze me. I was still alive, still had you, still had the kids, that’s what mattered. The rest of it was just stuff.
Rather than getting a grand send-off on WrestleMania like his former stablemates Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels, Triple H’s final match came on a live event in Tokyo, Japan, in June 2019, where he teamed with Shinsuke Nakamura to defeat Robert Roode and Samoa Joe.
During his appearance on Stephanie’s Places, Triple H recalled his disagreement with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38.
