Triple H Hits Back At Criticism Of WWE’s Aging Main Event Scene
Triple H doesn’t seem too concerned about the age of main eventers in WWE.
The WWE roster consisted of hundreds of wrestlers competing on Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and in the developmental program. It might be considered the deepest WWE roster of all time, especially when combining the men and women.
An issue some fans might have with the WWE roster is that it includes some older talent, too. WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is still going strong at 50 years old, John Cena is about to retire at 48 years old, AJ Styles is 48, Brock Lesnar is 48, CM Punk is 47, Sheamus is 47, Randy Orton is 45, and guys like Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns just turned 40 this year, while Seth Rollins is 39.
Even though these men take great care of their bodies, they know they can’t wrestle forever, and most of them will retire as full-timers before they turn 50. The WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has said his next WWE contract will likely be his last as a wrestler, so that could take him deep into his 40s.
When it comes to youth on the main WWE roster, there are guys like Bron Breakker and Dominik Mysterio under 30, while NXT stars like Oba Femi and Je’Von have very bright futures too, but it’s still an older roster overall.
As the WWE Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque is the man in charge of the company’s creative team and oversees the talent roster. While he was in his 40s, Triple H was still wrestling regularly, even winning the WWE Title and main eventing WrestleMania.
Triple H Thinks WWE’s Roster Depth Can Support Older Main Eventers
Speaking to Complex, Triple H is excited about the depth of the WWE roster supporting the main event players.
“The thing about it this year is, and I think you see it in the WrestleMania commercials, the field is wide open between a Brock Lesnar, between Roman, Punk, Cody, Seth is on the shelf right now but he factors into that.
That’s not even counting the new generations of the Bron Breakkers, the Bronson Reeds, the younger guys that are up and coming.
When people talk about the business now, and they talk about where our talent are at, the top players are all in top positions and they’re a bit older but the thickness and the depth of what is underneath them is what I’m most excited about because the field is deep, this business is going to be in good shape for a long time.”
