Triple H Behind Carlito & R-Truth’s WWE Exits

WWE Triple H SmackDown

WWE stunned many with two veterans on their way out of the company, and the buck stops with Triple H.

Just days after he was part of his biggest featured match in years when he took on John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event, R-Truth was told he was being let go by WWE at the end of his current contract, bringing his 17-year run in the company to an end.

Following that surprise, Carlito also revealed his time in WWE was coming to an end as his contract would not be extended by the company.

The wrestling world was shocked, in particular by Truth’s exit, with TKO coming under fire for the move, especially when WWE has been touting record revenues in recent months. But the blame for who gets let go comes down to Triple H.

Triple H Chooses Who WWE Lets Go

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained the reasoning WWE has in getting rid of the two veterans and warned there are other main roster stars on the periphery who could also be in danger:

When you make additions to a roster, you have to make subtractions. I was surprised with Carlito in the sense he’s in The Judgment Day thing and they have regular TV time. R-Truth not so much, he’s been around for a long time and I think a lot of people were surprised but when you really look at it between the age and the fact he’s just in there for a quick cameo, he’s not in weekly storylines or anything like that.

I think that anyone who’s on that borderline right now with the amount of people being brought up, you’ve gotta consider them. They’re gonna have a certain number of people on the roster, and every time you hear someone’s coming in, whether it’s from AEW or NXT, then somebody on the bottom level, if you’re not being used in a program and you’re not a major superstar, you’re in danger.

Meltzer continued, confirming that the choice to let Carlito and R-Truth go came down to Triple H (Paul Levesque):

They’re looking at the numbers. They’re looking at how many do we have to cut or how much money do we have to cut. And those were the picks. Those were the Levesque picks. And that’s what it is.
