Triple H Blamed For Not Seeing Potential In Signing New AEW Star
Will Ospreay has made his new wrestling home in AEW but there are those inside WWE that apparently don’t think Triple H realized what he was missing.
Will Ospreay signed his AEW contract at Full Gear in November 2023 and after finishing up his NJPW commitments, he made his official in-ring All Elite debut at Revolution where he defeated Konosuke Takeshita.
Now just a few weeks into his AEW run Will Ospreay is set for a dream match that would have seemed unthinkable just a few years ago at Dynasty on April 21st.
On Dynamite Big Business, the English star cut a promo hyping that match and it was praised by Dave Meltzer for the quality of it and Ospreay’s ability to adapt to US TV and not drop in swear words all the time.
Triple H Didn’t Get The Full Picture Of Will Ospreay
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer expanded on his point and noted that there are those in WWE who think Triple H didn’t know just what a total package Ospreay could have been for that company:
I just think that if Triple H is watching this, he’s going like, ‘Holy f**k’. They know he’s a good wrestler, but I don’t think they know that he’s the charismatic person and talker and can get over.
I know people in WWE when this was going down – it was becoming very clear he was going to AEW and not WWE – and they (WWE) offered a lot less money. I know people there were going like, ‘He (Triple H) didn’t realize’. They knew, but he just didn’t realize. He just thought, ‘Ah, he’s one of these great workers’.
Will Ospreay revealed that the offer WWE made to sign him was “night and day” from AEW’s and that is why he ultimately made the leap to Tony Khan’s company.
