Triple H Was Big Reason Why Veteran Stars Signed With WWE

Triple H WWE Raw press conference

The vision of Triple H is a big reason why two veteran wrestlers chose to sign with WWE when they became free agents.

For most of the last 20 years, The Motor City Machine Guns duo of Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin were regulars in TNA Wrestling. Both men became World Champions in TNA while also holding numerous other titles and becoming one of the best tag teams of their era.

Shelley and Sabin made their WWE debuts in October 2024, and it was evident immediately that they had made the right choice.

In just their third WWE match (and second week on SmackDown), the Motor City Machine Guns were WWE Tag Team Champions. They even got to do the customary “point” pose with WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

The fact that WWE kept their tag team name also showed how much Triple H believed in Shelley and Sabin as well.

In an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri of Shak Wrestling, Shelley talked about how Triple H running WWE was a big reason why the Guns decided to sign there.

“We have no idea whose idea it was to bring us in. What I can say though, we talked directly to Paul, Triple H, and he treated us with the utmost respect.

A huge factor in our decision was that we wanted to be players on his team. We wanted to be a part of the WWE machine, specifically with him leading the charge. That to me was something that was always at the front of our minds.”

Triple H Has “The Greatest Mind This Business Has Ever Seen”

Before the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, which honored Triple H as the headliner, many people in WWE spoke positively about their boss.

Randy Orton has known Triple H very well over the past 25 years, as an ally, an opponent in the ring, and now in Hunter’s behind-the-scenes role. In Randy Orton’s opinion, Triple H is the greatest mind in pro wrestling history.

“When I think of Triple H, I think of the greatest mind this business has ever seen. You hear about, you know, the goats, the boats, you know, the greatest of all time. I really think Triple H could be the greatest, definitely top three greatest in-ring performers of all time. But it doesn’t just stop there.

What Hunter is amazing at is helping other talent. He helped me at a very young age, stated as a fact that if it wasn’t for Triple H seeing something in me when I was 21, 22 years old, things that I didn’t even see in myself, I wouldn’t be standing here today speaking on this topic.

He’s an amazing in-ring performer, but his contributions outside of the ring, what he does for the show now that he’s running creative, hands down, just the greatest mind. I know I can go to him at any time and ask him his advice. 10 times out of 10, he’s thinking, of things that I hadn’t even pondered.

Talking about promos, talking about matches, anything to do with this business. That man, he knows the answer. That’s a few of the reasons, just a few, of why Triple H definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame.”
