Trick Williams’ TNA Title Win Biggest Story In Wrestling Says WWE Hall Of Famer
A WWE Hall of Famer has given their take on Trick Williams winning the TNA World Championship.
WWE has had a working relationship with TNA since early 2024, with the partnership becoming official in January 2025.
This has seen many of TNA’s biggest names appear in NXT and challenge for championship gold, with several NXT stars going in the opposite direction. While cross-promotional title matches have become the norm, things went up a notch in recent days.
At Battleground, Trick Williams beat Joe Hendry to claim the TNA World Championship, meaning that TNA’s top champion is now under WWE contract.
The event took place on a stacked couple of days for the industry after WWE also hosted Saturday Night’s Main Event with the return of Cody Rhodes, while AEW presented Double or Nothing. The latter in particular has drawn significant praise as one of the best pay-per-view events of recent years.
WWE Hall Of Famer Reflects On Unprecedented Trick Williams Win
In the wake of the packed weekend, the hosts on Busted Open Radio took a look back at the action, and one had a particularly surprising take.
During the conversation, Bully Ray suggested that Trick Williams winning the TNA World Championship was the biggest story to come out of the three shows. The WWE Hall of Famer justified his comments by saying that a WWE star winning TNA’s top prize is unprecedented.
“To me, if I have to pick one, gun to my head, there is one big thing that resonates with me, and it doesn’t have to do with the quote unquote top tier, heavy hitter main eventers. It’s Trick Williams. Trick Williams is now your TNA World Heavyweight Champion. This is unprecedented, and in being unprecedented, to me, makes it the A story.”
Bully Ray suggested that the end result of the story could be Hendry signing with WWE.
“What’s the big story? To me, it’s Trick becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and Joe Hendry having to continue to maximize his moments or pick up steam. If they don’t, [TNA] are going to lose out on a homegrown talent. And if TNA loses out on this homegrown talent named Joe Hendry, you know where Joe Hendry is going to wind up? [WWE].”
It’s been widely reported that Joe Hendry will sign with WWE when his TNA contract expires later in 2025. The Scottish star has become a regular on NXT television since losing to Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41.
