A major from the WWE NXT brand is finally heading to the main roster.

For the past four years, Trick Williams has been a mainstay on the WWE NXT brand. Trick started as an ally of Carmelo Hayes, but later evolved into his own man and became one of the biggest names in the brand’s history.

During his run on NXT, Trick Williams was a 2-time NXT Champion, NXT North American Champion, and TNA World Champion, and he headlined many PLEs across the NXT and TNA brands.

Trick’s last televised NXT match was on the November 25th episode, which was taped one week earlier. Trick lost to Myles Borne in that match. Trick has wrestled on NXT live events since then. Since Trick wasn’t on NXT television over the last month, it led to speculation that Williams may finally be joining the WWE main roster.

Prior to the December 19th Raw & SmackDown double taping in Grand Rapids, the BodySlam Patreon reported that Trick Williams was backstage and his call up to the main roster was imminent. That report was the truth because he appeared at the SmackDown taping.

Trick Williams Confronted WWE Champion Cody Rhodes On SmackDown

At the WWE SmackDown tapings in Grand Rapids, Trick Williams bumped into the WWE Champion in a backstage segment.

Former NXT Champion Trick Williams is shown backstage, and it’s revealed that he’s now a free agent. He’s looking to get signed to SmackDown. Williams bumps into Cody Rhodes backstage, who is looking for Nick Aldis, and the two briefly exchange words.

No specifics were reported about what was said, but we will see it on the December 26th episode of SmackDown. It could also be a sign that WWE may push Williams strongly since he interacted with Cody Rhodes on his first time on SmackDown as a free agent.

Away from the ring, Trick Williams is engaged to WWE SmackDown wrestler Lash Legend, who recently joined SmackDown after about four years in NXT. It seems likely that Williams will join SmackDown along with his fiancée, but that’s not official yet.

Since SmackDown is going to be a 3-hour show again starting January 2nd, it makes sense for them to add NXT talent like Williams bolster the blue brand’s roster.
