Top WWE Star Claims Creative Team Had Nothing Planned After WrestleMania Loss
A WWE legend admits that there were no plans for her after a big WrestleMania 41 match.
Going into 2025, Charlotte Flair was the popular pick to win the Women’s Royal Rumble match because she missed over a year of in-ring action due to a serious torn ACL knee injury that required surgery and a long rehab process.
Many people’s predictions turned out to be true, as Flair won the Women’s Royal Rumble for the second time in her illustrious career.
That win by Flair led to her challenging Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Title at WrestleMania 41. While many people may have thought Flair was a lock to win that match, it didn’t happen as Stratton beat the woman who inspired her to join WWE in the first place.
After WrestleMania, Flair wasn’t involved in a major feud, but would eventually go on to form a tag team with former WWE Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. They became friends as a team and Flair became a popular babyface with Bliss, instead of being in the heel role that Flair has been in for most of her career.
Alexa Bliss Pitched WWE Tag Team Idea With Charlotte Flair
Speaking to ClutchPoints, Charlotte Flair admitted the WWE creative team didn’t have plans for her, so they went with what Bliss pitched.
“I wrote the essay, and then Lexi [Alexa Bliss] had been pitching to partner with me, and I had been such an isolated character for so long. Then, Evolution happened.
I couldn’t have planned it better. I had just gotten to a point where they had no creative for me after WrestleMania. What was next was to, I don’t know, rebuild. And like [John] Cena said, ‘Don’t be perfect, be you.’”
As the team went on to win and lose the Women’s Tag Team Titles, Flair spoke about how she bonded with Bliss as a team, and it was the right move to keep them together.
“We just got to a point where it was like, This feels really good, and it would feel really bad if we break them up, because it’s one thing to have odd couples, but I also think there was a little bit of hesitation because she is so beloved, whereas my character, at that point, was not.
“It was like, will this even work or translate? And it did. I think our real-life chemistry was able to shine on-camera, and then as we were connecting, it’s like, Why would we break them up?”
In early 2026, Flair and Bliss remain a key women’s tag team in WWE along with the Women’s Tag Team Champions Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane), Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky, Nia Jax & Lash Legend, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and other duos as well.
