Top WWE Star Says CM Punk Is Not A Friend Of His
A big-name WWE superstar has made it clear he is not on friendly terms with CM Punk.
CM Punk made his triumphant return to WWE in November 2023 at Survivor Series in Chicago. After a tumultuous two years in All Elite Wrestling that led to Punk getting fired for another backstage incident, he was welcomed back into WWE three months later although everybody in the company might not have been happy to see him.
When watching WWE shows, clearly the fans missed him because “CM Punk” chants oftentimes fill arenas whether he’s at a show or not. That’s because Punk knows how to get reactions from fans thanks to his eight-year run in WWE that saw him win five WWE World Titles.
The current WWE roster doesn’t feature that many wrestlers who were around when Punk left the company in January 2014. Some of them like Drew McIntyre have turned their past with Punk into a storyline that has given them one of the best rivalries in the company this year.
Talent like former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens signed with WWE later in 2014. The two men haven’t wrestled a WWE match together, but they did cross paths on an episode of SmackDown last December when Owens didn’t have much of an answer to Punk’s question.
While speaking to the Daily Mail, Kevin Owens made it clear that he is not friends with CM Punk.
“We never talk. We have no reason to talk. We’re not friends. We’re not, we don’t, you know, we’re just not, I don’t know.”
“We have no reason to talk. If we work together, we will talk, but just not a thing we do.”
Since Owens is on the Smackdown brand while Punk is on Raw, they likely don’t see each other that often.
The comments from Owens could lead some fans to speculate that it’s because had a very famous backstage fight with The Young Bucks (and Kenny Omega) in September 2022. Owens was close friends with the Bucks in the past, so that could be why there is some friction between Owens and Punk.
CM Punk Called A “Blessing” By NXT’s Trick Williams
Kevin Owens may not be friends with CM Punk, but the former WWE Champion Punk has endeared himself to the NXT roster since he spends a lot of time at NXT shows due to his interest in helping the next generation of wrestlers. Former NXT Champion Trick Williams praised Punk heavily in a recent interview.
“Mentor is a perfect way to put it, man. He’s been a blessing for all of us who would take the time to actually go talk to him and reach out to him. He’s helped me with a few things that I feel like, if the crowd knew about it, they would be very grateful that he did. I’ll just leave it there. Shoutout CM Punk. He’s been a positive light for all of us here in NXT.”
