Top NJPW Star Wants Will Ospreay Clash
Will Ospreay has a target on his back.
Although he’s now one of AEW’s biggest names, for several years, Will Ospreay was synonymous with NJPW.
After making his name in the UK and Europe, Ospreay took things to a whole new level in Japan, putting on classic match after classic match. He might have left Japan behind and headed to the United States, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten his former employer.
In an interview back in May, Will Ospreay said he’d love to face IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto, and it seems the feeling’s mutual.
Hirooki Goto Wants Will Ospreay
At NJPW Dominion on June 15, Hirooki Goto will make the latest defence of his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Shingo Takagi, but he’s already thinking about a different challenge.
During an interview with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Goto looked ahead to NJPW x AEW Forbidden Door in August. The star said that if he’s still champion by the time the event rolls around, he’d love to face Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, or Katsuyori Shibata.
“Of course I want to win the G1 as the champion, but I want more than anything to be IWGP Champion by the time Forbidden Door comes around. I’ve said before that I want to face Kazuchika Okada and Katsuyori Shibata, and Forbidden Door is my only chance for that.
That would be fantastic (to face Will Ospreay). Wrestling Callum Newman in Fukuoka really made me think of Ospreay, and we’ve never had a singles match. At Forbidden Door, I’d love it to be Ospreay, Okada or Shibata.”
Will Ospreay will be back in action at Summer Blockbuster on June 11 when he takes on Swerve Strickland. In recent weeks, Ospreay has been trying to calm the tension between Srtickland and “Hangman” Adam Page as Page prepares to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at All In Texas.
