Top AEW Star Wants To Retire Before Tarnishing Their Reputation
An AEW legend doesn’t want people to be sad when he eventually retires as a wrestler.
Kenny Omega has been All Elite since day one. The former IWPG World Champion is a founding father of AEW and was named an Executive Vice President of AEW along with The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), and Cody Rhodes.
While Cody returned to WWE after three years with AEW, Omega and the Bucks remain among the biggest names in the company.
During his six years with AEW, Omega has had a lot of success as a World Champion, Tag Team Champion, and Trios Champion, but he’s also dealt with his fair share of injuries and health issues. Omega lost over a year of his career to diverticulitis, but he has recovered and wrestles regularly for the company he helped build.
Since the 42-year-old Omega has been wrestling for over 20 years and has been through a lot in his career, he’s often asked about his future. While speaking to SHAK Wrestling, Omega spoke about what retirement could mean for him.
“I would like to be in a situation where I left the ring not having any regrets and not feeling embarrassed or that I tarnished my own reputation. So, I would like to leave when I have some semblance of athleticism left in my body.
I don’t want to completely work until the wheels fall off and that the person that leaves wrestling is one that barely resembles the Kenny Omega of old. So, I’ve been thinking a lot about when that timing would be.”
Kenny Omega Doesn’t Want AEW And Wrestling Fans To Be Sad When He Leaves Wrestling
Whenever a wrestler retires from wrestling, there is sadness from fans who will miss watching somebody calling it a career. However, Omega doesn’t want fans to be sad.
“One important thing for me, too, is when I finally do leave, whenever that may be, I don’t—and this might sound odd—but I don’t want people to be sad. In fact, the best case scenario for me would be that they don’t realize I’m gone at all.
I would love to build people or have the peace of mind that the company has built enough stars so that their star is shining bright enough to distract from me stepping away from the scene. That would make me the most happy.” (H/T Ringsidenews)
