Top AEW Star Not Cleared To Travel

AEW Logo Blur Mark Briscoe

One of the biggest names in AEW was not cleared to travel to Dynamite this week.

The rivalry between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Mark Briscoe was one of the most personal issues in AEW during the summer. The reason it became so personal is because MJF mentioned Mark’s late brother, Jay Briscoe, who died in a January 2023 car accident, to piss Mark off.

In the main event of AEW Dynamite on August 6th, MJF controversially beat Mark Briscoe. After MJF hit the Heatseeker DDT, Mark had his foot on the bottom rope, but the referee didn’t see it, so MJF got the win.

After the match, MJF punched Mark a few times. MJF put the Dynamite Diamond Ring on his pinky and MJF punched Mark with it. Briscoe was a bloody mess after that.

MJF left through the crowd while the AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page checked on Mark. MJF was standing behind the barricade, so Page went after him and MJF tried to fight back. Page and MJF fought into the crowd while officials and security guys tried to break it up. Page tackled MJF into the ring apron. Page wanted a Buckshot Lariat in the ring, but MJF bailed to the floor.

During the AEW Dynamite broadcast in Cincinnati on August 13th, announcer Excalibur said that Mark Briscoe was not cleared to travel this week due to being hit with the Dynamite Diamond Ring by MJF last week.

It’s possible that the Briscoe situation is just a storyline to give him a week off. Regardless, it was what was said to explain why Briscoe was off this week’s show.

AEW’s Mark Briscoe Believes Nothing He Can Do Will Top What The Briscoe Brothers Did

During a recent interview, Mark Briscoe talked about his legacy as a tag team wrestler with his late brother, Jay Briscoe. Together, the Briscoe Brothers were arguably the greatest ROH Tag Team of all time, and it’s something he’s extremely proud of.

“I never will in my life have anything that I cherish like our tag team career together, me and Jay as The Briscoe Brothers. I could have, whatever, a thousand five-star matches and win all the awards. Nothing I could do at this point can scratch the surface of the legacy of the Briscoe Brothers.

Part of my mission at this point is to perform at a level where people enjoy what I’m doing and what I’m presenting, and they’ll search out some old Briscoe Brothers stuff because that was the gold.”

Tony Khan also mentioned Jay Briscoe recently when Khan admitted his biggest regret running AEW was that he wasn’t able to put Jay Briscoe on Dynamite, even though he had been at tapings as part of the ROH roster.
