A big-name AEW star is set to undergo the knife.

At All In, Bryan Danielson will challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship — a title he has famously never won. Danielson earned his shot at the gold after winning the Owen Hart Cup, beating Swerve Strickland in the finals.

To add even more spice, Danielson has pledged to retire if he can’t beat Strickland.

During the August 10th episode of Collision, footage aired of Danielson being interviewed by Jim Ross. In a surprising move, the star revealed he expects he’ll need neck surgery before the year is out.

“I mean, the odds are I’m gonna have to get neck surgery before the end of this year. That’s the reality of it. That’s something that I’ve accepted is coming down the pike relatively soon,”

AEW Places Heavy Restrictions On AEW

Although fans might be hoping otherwise, Bryan Danielson’s injury struggles are very real and not just for the storyline.

Ahead of his showdown with Strickland, AEW has reportedly placed “heavy restrictions” on Danielson, which has included removing him from matches that had been planned in advance.

The American Dragon has a lengthy history of serious injuries, and he was famously forced to retire in 2016 with concussion-related issues.
