Top AEW Star Doesn’t Watch Wrestling
One top AEW star has admitted that he doesn’t watch wrestling.
On March 1st, John Cena shocked the world when he turned heel by joining forces with The Rock and delivering a low blow to Cody Rhodes before knocking him out with a Rolex-enhanced punch. In the weeks since, Cena has blamed the fans for his turn and promised to “ruin wrestling” by retiring as the Undisputed WWE Champion.
One man who has not been following the drama is AEW’s Adam Copeland. When asked about Cena’s turn on First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo, Cope admitted that he doesn’t watch much wrestling as he doesn’t want the sport to become “all-consuming.”
“I generally don’t watch wrestling just because I’m burned out in terms…I think it’s one of those deals when you’re doing it, watching it can be all-consuming, and I told myself in coming back this time that I wasn’t going to let it do that to me.
“I have a family and two kids. My downtime is spent with them or watching hockey as opposed to critiquing and pulling apart of wrestling shows.”
The Rated-R Superstar does keep up to date on things, though, and says that Cena’s turn seems like a “shot in the arm” for the wrestling business.
“I get my clips from Instagram and I’ll watch them there. I don’t watch the full story, the follow throughs, and all the little beats here and there. I don’t really know how it went, but a lot of people were talking about it.
“When you get a character that has been around for that long as a babyface, to turn, it’s like when Hogan turned and joined the NWO. It’s always a good shot in the arm for the business, for sure.”
Adam Copeland Unlikely To Sign New AEW Deal
During the same interview, Adam Copeland admitted he plans to call it a day once his AEW contract ends. Cope explained that, at the age of 51, he takes at least a week to recover from each match, and doesn’t think he will wrestle much beyond 53.
