Top AEW Female Star Desperate To Main Event PPV

Tony Khan AEW

One major AEW star wants to find themselves in a main event spot on a pay-per-view in the near future.

At WrestleDream, Kris Statlander successfully defended her AEW Women’s World Championship against Toni Storm. Immediately after that bout, Statlander was confronted by TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, who had issued a challenge to any champion so she could win her eleventh title.

That challenge was answered by Interim ROH Women’s Television Champion Mina Shirakawa, who lost her gold to The CEO. Mone’s own celebrations were cut short by Statlander, who returned to the ring. Later in the night, Mone handed down the challenge to the AEW Women’s World Champion for a title match at Full Gear.

Kris Statlander Understanding About AEW PPV Main Event Spot

Speaking at the post-WrestleDream media scrum, Kris Statlander was asked about possibly headlining that pay-per-view in what will be a huge match with Mone now gunning for her 13th title:

Depending on what the circumstances are leading up to Full Gear, there could be some more insane stipulations, and would I love to be the main event? Absolutely.

But sometimes there are other things that are a little bit more played out and they have a little bit more deserving of a moment than you. And sometimes it’s okay to take that step back and just be like, I’m going to do the best that I can in the spot that I’m in.

I’m still getting a moment to prove to her that not only am I better than her. This is my moment to beat her and I’ll do it at the beginning of the show, the end of the show, in the middle of the show.

In AEW’s history, no women have ever competed in a pay-per-view main event. For the very first time, the company will produce a women’s Blood & Guts match before Full Gear takes place.
