Tony Schiavone Breaks Silence On AEW Absence
Tony Schiavone has broken his silence after missing AEW Dynamite amid suggestions that he’d been suspended for defending Tony Khan.
Excalibur was joined by Matt Menard and Ian Riccaboni at the announce desk for the January 8 edition of Dynamite as AEW’s lead announcer noted Tony Schiavone was away on assignment.
This raised eyebrows with many fans given the interesting week Schiavone has had. NJPW announcer Chris Charlton has been suspended following his controversial comments at Wrestle Dynasty where he referred to Tony Khan as a “money mark” and criticised AEW’s use of former NJPW stars Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and Will Ospreay.
Tony Schiavone took to social media to tell Charlton “GFY” and suggested he shower more before quickly deleting that message and many wondered if the voice of WCW’s absence was related to that outburst. However, the real reason Tony Schiavone missed the show quickly became apparent as he dealt with a family situation.
Tony Schiavone Pokes Fun At Suspension Rumours
Now on his What Happened When podcast, Tony Schiavone has had fun with the speculation surrounding his absence, joking that instead of picking his wife up from the hospital after receiving a new hip, he headed to work and got suspended:
As a matter of fact, she got out of the hospital on Wednesday so I just let her walk home from the hospital instead of picking her up and I went to TV and got suspended. But she made it home about six hours later with her walker on 285 in Atlanta.
