Tony Khan has spent big for AEW over the last six years, but was this one star really his biggest waste of cash?

Andrade El Idolo made his shock return to AEW on the sixth anniversary of Dynamite, where he attacked Kenny Omega. This comes just a few short weeks after Andrade was fired by WWE under mysterious circumstances, which included him apparently being escorted out of a SmackDown taping.

Andrade’s return has not been universally welcomed, with a suggestion that AEW could be asking for trouble by bringing back the star whose first run in the company was mired in controversy.

But could another star now with WWE have been a bigger waste of Tony Khan’s money?

Tony Khan Wasted Money On Rusev

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about Andrade’s return and touched on Rusev’s time in AEW – where he was known as Miro – and why he might have been Tony Khan’s worst use of money yet:

Rusev, that was the most ill-spent money Tony Khan probably ever did. Or among them, I shouldn’t say the most but among them. This guy wouldn’t do anything in AEW and he goes to WWE and he’s putting over Dominik. He wouldn’t put over guys twice as good as Dominik in AEW.

Rusev lost in his quest to become WWE Intercontinental Champion on Raw when he lost to Dominik Mysterio. His time in AEW ended at the same time as Andrade’s last run ended, when the two men clashed with one another at Worlds End 2023.
