Tony Khan Gives Intriguing Hint On Future Of AEW Rampage
Tony Khan still loves AEW Rampage.
On October 2nd, it was announced that All Elite Wrestling had reached a new media rights agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal was said to be for three years with the addition of a fourth option year that can be exercised by WBD.
Although the exact financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, it’s believed it’s worth more than $150 million per year.
The deal sees Dynamite continue in its regular Wednesday slot, while Collision will air on Saturdays as usual. However, there was no mention of Rampage in the announcement, all but confirming the one-hour Friday night show would be ending. But, that might not be the case.
Tony Khan Offers AEW Rampage Update
During the pre-Full Gear media call, Khan was asked about the company’s new deal with Warner Bros Discovery, before suggesting his work was far from over. The AEW boss noted that while an agreement had been made with WBD, other negotiations were ongoing.
Khan then hinted that Rampage could actually find a home outside of the WBD bubble.
“I am still working on our media rights. We got a great, great deal done with Warner Bros Discovery. It’s a massive increase in our revenue, making several times more and producing the four hours of television that you reference with Dynamite every Wednesday on TBS. Also now streaming on Max and Collision every week on TNT, also streaming on Max.
For Rampage, it’s been something I really enjoy doing since 2021. In the deal, we got where it’s focused on these four hours of television. It’s not currently in the package of our Warner Bros. Discovery media rights deal.
“I think going forward, there’s a lot of opportunities for AEW. And we’ve talked about trying to grow the brand internationally and domestically. And… As far as Rampage goes, that show or potentially other AEW content got a lot places where it could live.
All of our focus in 2024 on the business side had to be on our Media Rights renewal with Warner Bros. Discovery. They have been our partner from day one. And the most important thing that we could do was extend that huge relationship for us.”
Khan went on to reiterate that he loves working on Rampage, before suggesting there’s more to be revealed regarding its future. He added that fans should stay tuned regarding future AEW programming outside of Collision and Dynamite.
“Rampage is a show I love. And I loved doing for the past three years. As far as where it lives or what AEW shows outside of Dynamite and Collision we’ll be running next year, I think something that still remains to be revealed. And we’re still working on things.
But the biggest things for us are the things that we’ve accomplished with announcing Dynamite and Collision. And the plans for streaming on Max and I think everybody should stay tuned as to the future of Rampage or other AEW programming,”
Up next for AEW is Full Gear on November 23rd, live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In the main event, Jon Moxley will defend the World Title against Orange Cassidy as his mission to break the entire roster continues.
Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone puts the TBS Championship on the line against Kris Statlander, and Jack Perry defends the TNT Championship against Daniel Garcia. The likes of Will Ospreay, Konosuke Takeshita, Bobby Lashley, Jay White, and Hangman Adam Page will also be in action.
