Tony Khan says a WWE star is one of the greats.

One of the biggest talking points of 2025 looks set to be the retirement of John Cena after he announced his impending exit at Money In The Bank. Ironically, the year looks to be Cena’s most active in the ring in several years as he competes at the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, and more for the last time.

As Cena prepares to hang up his boots, conversations have been in full swing regarding his position among the greats. The veteran is arguably the most successful star in WWE history, having dominated the company for over a decade.

During a new appearance on Maggie & Perloff, AEW boss Tony Khan was asked about Cena’s legacy and whether he would have him on his personal wrestling Mount Rushmore.

“He would definitely be somebody anybody would have to consider, certainly, especially of the modern era. For me, a lot of the people on my Mount Rushmore are probably people I grew up on. Not only being a fan of, but have gotten to work with later in life. Sting, to me, is up there. It’s a lot of guys I grew up on my Mount Rushmore. Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat and Bret Hart and Steve Austin. I’d have to think about Ric Flair. A lot of great options for that. John Cena is one of the best wrestlers and certainly one of the greatest of this modern era, without a doubt,” said Khan.

Tony Khan Lands Two Former WWE Stars

Meanwhile, Tony Khan has secured the signings of Mason Madden (Mace) and Mansoor.

The ex-WWE pair was released by the company on September 21st, 2023, and headed out onto the independent scene appearing for the likes of GCW. Ahead of putting pen to paper with Tony Khan, the duo were also reportedly in talks with TNA Wrestling.

Elsewhere, it’s been reported that Ricochet is expected to sign with AEW in the coming weeks.

The star’s agent was backstage during the July 3rd episode of Dynamite, with a deal expected to be completed “soon.” Ricochet became a free agent on July 1st after letting his contract expire.
