Tony Khan Avoids WWE As He Names His Favourite Wrestlers Not In AEW

AEW President Tony Khan

Tony Khan mentioned some interesting names when asked to choose his favourites outside of AEW.

As the owner of AEW and ROH, Tony Khan will proudly tell anybody who wants to listen that he believes the AEW roster is the best in the world. Khan describes his company as the place “Where the best wrestle.”

There is nothing wrong with believing you are the best, and AEW indeed boasts a talented roster led by AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland, The Young Bucks, Adam Copeland, and many others.

During a recent interview on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, Tony Khan was asked about his favorite wrestlers outside of AEW.

“Zack Sabre Jr would be very high on the list. Starlight Kid, very good. AZM, very good. The lightbulb came on, Mistico. Mistico is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. He’s been on Dynamite since I was in college, I was booking him (in my notebook). I got really into CMLL in the early 2000s.”

Zack Sabre Jr. will defend New Japan’s IWGP World Heavyweight Title at the upcoming AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door PPV on August 24th. His opponent will be determined when Lee Moriarty, Hechicero, Daniel Garcia, and Nigel McGuinness face off in a 4-way match on the August 16th episode of AEW Collision.

Mistico isn’t officially announced for a match at Forbidden Door yet, but he’s wrestled on AEW TV, including against MJF, since the company works with CMLL.

Tony Khan could have mentioned some WWE names, but he chose not to.

WWE Running Upcoming PLE Against Tony Khan’s September AEW PPV

It has been reported that WWE plans on running a PLE on Saturday, September 20th, in Indianapolis. That date is an interesting one because Tony Khan’s AEW is running the annual All Out PPV on September 20th in Toronto. That announcement was made three months ago.

While WWE has put NXT PLEs head to head against AEW PPVs, they haven’t done it with main roster PLEs, so if they do, wrestling fans will have a choice between the two companies, unless they want to watch both shows at the same time. The choice is yours, wrestling fans.
