Tony Khan Happy That World’s Top Black Wrestlers Are In AEW
Tony Khan says he knows representation in the wrestling world matters and that’s why he’s thrilled most of the top Black wrestlers are in AEW.
Representation of different races and genders is a hot topic in wrestling as it is in other industries across the globe. Tony Khan has at times come under criticism for his representation of certain groups including his company’s female stars.
With nine matches made for Full Gear, it has not gone unnoticed that only one of those is a women’s match as Mercedes Mone defends her TBS Title against Kris Statlander. However, Mariah May will finally have her champagne celebration with Mina Shirakawa on the show with many expecting that segment to hail the return of the missing Toni Storm.
Tony Khan Conscious Of Black Representation
Speaking to CHGO Sports, Tony Khan was asked about the representation of Black wrestlers in AEW and noted that he believes most of the top Black wrestlers in the world are now in his company:
Well, I think you just said it. I’m conscious of it (Black representation in wrestling) but I also think that these are all some of the best wrestlers in AEW you just named so, we’re really lucky to have those great stars and we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to build up some stars and also have a lot of great free agents come in to where I think so many of the top wrestlers, some of the top Black wrestlers in the world are in AEW and I really think most of the top Black wrestlers in the world are now in AEW.
I think that is a conscious thing but I also think it’s great and it’s awesome to hear that.
Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley will make his AEW debut at Full Gear as he takes on Swerve Strickland. Strickland has been at odds with MVP’s Hurt Syndicate since he arrived in AEW with Shelton Benjamin by his side.
